LGBTQ

LGBTQ stands for lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer psychology. You may also heard the terms ” Rainbow community” or ” Queer Community” used to describe LGBTQ people. It is certainly a good practice to have a comprehensive understanding of the subsets of gender and sexuality, therefore prepared socially for people who identify something other than homosexual or bisexual.

“Today, LGBTQ people’s stories are more likely to be told in the same way as others — with fairness, integrity, and respect. Journalists realise that LGBTQ people have the right to fair, accurate, and inclusive reporting of their stories and their issues.

“Fair, accurate, and inclusive news media coverage has played an important role in expanding public awareness and understanding of LGBTQ people”.

Why LGBTQ matters?

It is always the fact that the “right” kind of relationship should be heterosexual relationship, or saying like if you have a crush on some of opposite sex that means you are on the “right” track. Such stereotypes are more common in non-Western countries, where being a lesbian or a gay could even cause discrimination. From name-calling to bullying, the range of unequal treatment is getting extensive and damaging.

In many cases, LGBTQ people are harassed in the streets, beaten up and even get killed for being who they are. A report has claimed that in the year of 2017, there are at least 325 individuals are murdered simply because they accepted their unique identities. It is also pathetic that interest people all over the world are forced to undergo invasive, dangerous and completely unnecessary surgeries that may cause life-long physical and psychological side effects.

If we have more tolerance for the LGBTQ community, the society would become more open and comprehensive. Anyone who identified as LGBTQ may not need to go through ridicule for coming out, harassment for who they are or risks for being isolated. Therefore, transgender couples, same-sex couples or any other couples from the LGBTQ community may have fewer worries for their future.

While thanks to the growing exposure and studies toward the LGBTQ group, the public can have more of an accepting view of them. Rights for LGBTQ people are well-constructed and developed according to certain economic and social needs, for example, new laws in many countries, such as  GreeceDenmark and Norwaythat allow them access to their rights to education, health, housing and employment.
